David has worked for multiple mining companies as well as consultancy roles for close to 34 years.

He has spent a significant part of his career as a senior mining engineer as part of onsite technical services teams, corporate teams, and a consultant. He has an eye for detail and a practical approach to getting the best outcome, for both safety and efficiency from a mining operation. Combining the identification of the highest value product with innovative technical solutions and benchmark productivities is a key feature of David’s work. David’s depth of understanding will challenge existing assumptions, ensuring all aspects are considered and well thought through using a rigorous technical process. David is an advanced user of Vulcan, MS Excel, and Spry software packages. He also has experience in 3D-Dig and Minescape.

Track Record

  • David was the Principal Mining Engineer with Terracom Resources at the Blair Athol Site providing Short, Mid & Long Term Planning, reserving, scheduling and rehabilitation plans. At Blair Athol, David developed a Spry model for short term planning use, greatly improving the accuracy and flexibility of the short term plans. This model also allowed for the model to be extended into the mid term space for Budget purposes.
  • He was the Senior Mining Engineer at the Whitehaven Gunnedah Open Cuts providing site support plus budget and LOM schedules and plans. David has been involved in the mining consent process for both brownfield and greenfield open cut mine developments. He liaised closely with the environmental team to ensure ongoing compliance at the Gunnedah group of Open Cuts. He reviewed both existing and proposed development applications, along with their associated final landform / rehabilitation designs. On one project, David identified and corrected a potential $40M Rehabilitation liability.
  • As the Senior Mining Engineer at the Whitehaven Tarrawonga Coal mine, he delivered quarterly, annual budget and LOM schedules and plans. David was instrumental in developing the Spry model for the Tarrawonga mine.
  • When he was the Senior Mining Engineer at Sojitz Blue, he provided mine optimisation support to the Gregory, Minerva, and Meteor Downs South mine sites. In this role, David developed a Spry model to efficiently and accurately evaluate OBIA (Overburden in Advance) movement on a monthly basis.
  • As the Principal Mining Consultant with Marshall Mining and Engineering Solutions, he worked with various mine sites providing Short, Mid & Long Term Planning, reserving, scheduling and rehabilitation of open cut mines.
