Steve has over 25 years of experience in risk management and safety in a variety of industries including mining, construction, and heavy industry.

During his 12 years of experience with resource industry advisory services, he has completed over 450+ projects in base metals, precious metals, and bulk commodities. He combines his deep understanding of the engineering and safety related legislation and standards with a wealth of experience in compliance and project management. Steve specialises in strategic and independent technical audits and reviews. He has expertise in preparing tailored risk solutions for clients of all sizes and is often called upon to facilitate complex risk workshops and by legal teams as an expert witness. He provides advice on company information and obligations in addition to attending sites for “deep dives” into identified issues. He is astute in quickly evaluating and analysing current corporate and operating risks drawing from his breadth of knowledge of operations.

Track Record

  • Steve specialises in resource industry safety reviews. Steve has extensive experience in Australia and internationally having completed projects in Turkey, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Mongolia.
  • Before joining Palaris, Steve worked as the Heath and Safety Manager for a underground metal mine and associated processing plant. He transitioned the mines safety management system from contract mining to owner operator.
  • The majority of the 450+ projects Steve has completed with Palaris have been working with mining clients, focused on engineering, risk and safety related services, particularly risk assessment, technical reviews and auditing.
  • Steve’s operational experience has been in the development and implementation of safety and environmental systems. His clients value his technical advise and practical insights on continuous improvement programs, investigations and reviews.
  • Steve has assisted a number of organisations in the development, implementation and auditing of accredited management systems (AS/NZ ISO45001, AS/NZ ISO14001 and AS/NZ ISO9001).
  • Steve has project managed a number of large scale safety improvement projects including implementation of vehicle hierarchy, gaining regulatory approval for segregation of a mine into two distinct statutory areas for production improvements and facilitation of risk workshops associated with re-entry of the Pike River Coal mine post disaster for forensics investigations.
