We are not traditional business improvement (BI) specialists who offer incremental change. BI specialists typically follow a comprehensive process that requires significant time to diagnose, articulate and quantify potential improvement opportunities across all business aspects. In our experience, the ‘traditional’ BI process tends to get lost in the detail. So much so, that the fundamental question of which are the “right” areas to improve can be missed altogether. This feedback was received from the Managing Director from one of our mining clients who had experienced difficulty with production following a longwall installation. This culminated in a significant roof fall on the longwall face.  We were engaged to assess the operational processes at the mine and continued feasibility of the longwall operations. Our review included a financial viability and technical feasibility assessment. Our integrated team reviewed key value drivers (coal quality and productivity) and completed a development process analysis. We provided a forward work strategy supported by a set of concise recommendations.
