Matthew is a highly experienced mining engineer and operational leader with over 25 years of experience across underground coal operations in New South Wales and Queensland.
He is recognised for bringing practical mine management judgement, strong statutory capability and a proven ability to turn complex operational challenges into safe, disciplined and commercially focused outcomes.
He has extensive experience in operations management, project execution, contract management, business improvement and technical due diligence. Matthew has held senior operational and project roles across greenfield and established longwall operations, pillar extraction, highwall mining, drift construction, feasibility studies, statutory compliance and safety management systems. His value lies in combining practical underground coal operating experience with disciplined project delivery, operational mentoring and a clear focus on safe, sustainable performance improvement.

- At Narrabri Mine, he led underground development and construction of a greenfield longwall operation, including the safety management system, workforce mobilisation, key infrastructure and commissioning of a thick seam longwall exceeding nameplate production capacity.
- He contributed to improved roadway development processes, engagement and underground standards, supporting BHP’s Broadmeadow Mine achieving record development for two consecutive years while commissioning and operating a longwall top coal caving system.
- While at BHP his operational strategy and input into technical and financial analysis for a greenfield longwall feasibility study helped ground the investment case in practical underground coal operating requirements.
- His role as owner’s Construction Manager at Maxwell Underground covered construction of two surface-to-seam drifts totalling 2.7km for a greenfield longwall operation, including contract execution, drill and blast construction, and installation of life of mine infrastructure.
- At Millennium Mine, his project leadership supported mobilisation of Australia’s second ADDCAR highwall mining system, managing risk, compliance and recruitment before the operation ramped up to an annualised rate of 1.0Mtpa and 25kt/person/year..
