Steve has over 20 years of experience in risk management and safety in a variety of industries including mining, construction and heavy industry. During his 6 years of experience with resource industry advisory services, his approach focuses on providing clients with practical insight into material risk. He combines his deep understanding of the engineering related legislation and standards with a wealth of experience in regard to compliance management. Steve specialises in assessing management systems and operational performance in relation to risk reduction. He has in depth knowledge of principal hazards and the hazards that are managed under principal control plans.

Steve's Track Record

Having completed the majority of Palaris' 225+ engineering risk management projects, Steve has now developed expertise in assisting our clients through regulator audits, targeted assessment project (TAP) and planned inspections. Steve has also been heavily involved in overseeing 100+ engineering compliance projects across both coal and metals.

Steve has provided countless facilitation services and training particularly specialising in major hazards and critical controls. He has conducted extensive hazard and risk analysis at job, project and organisational level. He is conversant and comfortable with various risk management methodologies including bow-tie analysis, fault tree analysis, and design risk assessments.

Steve draws on his breadth of experience to assist clients with understanding the organisational, job related and human factors that can affect health and safety in the workplace. He has experience in broadening the risk management framework to include how human and organisational factors impact on the implementation and maintenance of critical controls.

Steve's operational experience has been in the management of contractors’ safety and environment systems, risk assessments, incident investigation, development of safe work method statements and continuous improvement programs. Steve has also established a fully operational mines rescue team providing emergency response capabilities for identified potential site scenarios.

He has also had experience in the transition from contract operation to owner operation of two underground mines and processing plants assisting in gap identification and corrective action implementation. Steve has assisted a number of organisations in the development and implementation of a SMS to gain accreditation to AS4801, ISO14001 and ISO9001.
